Privacy Policy

Minimally Sustained (minimallysustained.com) is run by Shaun. This page explains what personal information the site collects, why, and who it’s shared with. In short: only what’s needed to sell you the book, run your subscription, ship your order, and keep the site working. There are no ads, and your information is never sold.

What we collect and why

Buying the book or a subscription

Book and subscription payments are handled by Stripe, which acts as the seller of record and collects your payment details, billing information, and any sales tax or VAT directly. We never see your card number. Stripe shares your email address and the status of your purchase or subscription with us, and we store them so you can sign in and read.

Store orders

When you buy from the store, Stripe collects your payment details, name, email, and shipping address. We keep a record of your order: your email, what you bought, the amount paid, and its shipping status and tracking links. Your name and shipping address are sent to Printful, which prints and ships your order.

Your reader account

You sign in with your email address and a one-time link we email you. If you comment, you choose a display name. Your comments and display name are visible to other readers who can see that page.

Subscribers receive the newsletter through Buttondown, which stores your email address and whether your subscription is active. Every issue has an unsubscribe link.

Analytics

We use Umami to count page views. It doesn’t use cookies or track you across other websites, and it only reports anonymous totals, such as which pages are popular, which sites link here, and general browser, device, and country information.

Security

Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs, such as IP addresses and request times, to keep the site secure and running.

Cookies and browser storage

We use a cookie to keep you signed in. Your store cart and reading settings (such as text size) are saved in your own browser’s storage and never sent to us until you check out. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the services that run the site, and only what each one needs:

Stripe: payments, receipts, subscriptions, and sales tax.
Printful: printing and shipping store orders.
Supabase: our database and sign-in system.
Buttondown: the newsletter.
Umami: anonymous site analytics.
Our hosting and email delivery providers, to serve the site and send sign-in links.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep order and payment records for as long as tax and accounting rules require. We keep your account, comments, and newsletter subscription until you ask us to delete them or unsubscribe.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing info@minimallysustained.com. We’ll respond within 30 days. Some records, like past orders, may need to be kept for tax purposes. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, and you can manage or cancel your subscription in the billing portal linked from your account.

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected about them and to request its deletion, and we honor these requests for everyone. We don’t sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms.

Do Not Track: we don’t track visitors across other websites, so the site works the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.

Children

This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Where your information is stored

Our service providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries where they operate.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll let subscribers know by email.
